As part of its research support activities, The jardin du Lautaret is involved in producing and providing scientific data. Across a vast area of 300km² around the Lautaret-Galibier, several measuring stations and numerous sensors provide scientists with valuable information on mountain ecosystems. This data can be shared without restriction, upon request.
Weather data for the Lautaret-Galibier area
A station is located in the garden and has been providing meteorological data since 2007.
Five other measuring stations are located in the Lautaret-Galibier area. Temperature, air humidity, wind speed and direction (including gusts), precipitation, snow depth, and solar radiation are measured.
Unlike air temperatures, soil temperatures provide information about the thermal conditions experienced by living organisms, particularly plant root systems. These temperatures provide a better understanding of the links between microclimate, species distribution, and ecosystem functioning.
Three measuring stations have been installed on the Guisane River and its tributaries since 2019 and 2020. Water level, flow rate, temperature, conductivity, and turbidity are the variables measured continuously.

This research was conducted within the Long-Term Socio-Ecological Research (LTSER) platform Lautaret-Oisans, a site of the European Research Infrastructure eLTER. It received support from the Lautaret Garden (Univ. Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, 38000 Grenoble, France), a member of the Zone Atelier Alpes, eLTER network and the AnaEE-France (ANR-11- INBS-0001AnaEE-Services, Investissements d’Avenir frame).
Do you have a science project?
The jardin du Lautaret scientific teams throughout the year to conduct research on topics related to the biology of adaptation and evolutionary ecology, climate and ecosystem functioning, and the dynamics of mountain regions.
