The Roche-Noire watershed from Les Charmasses
The Roche-Noire watershed from Les Charmasses
Researchers at the Institute of Geosciences and Environment in Grenoble, notably Alix Reverdy as part of her thesis, are developing a digital model to better understand the hydrology of the Roche-Noire watershed, near the Col du Lautaret.
A watershed is a geographical area that receives water flowing into the same river or groundwater aquifer.

The following animation shows photos taken of the Charmasses plateau between July 2021 and July 2022.

Studying the hydrology of a watershed means studying the water flow of rivers and snow cover, their discharge, their physical and chemical composition, and gas exchanges with the atmosphere (particularly nitrogen).

These photos allow researchers to compare and improve their predictive models with the actual duration of snow cover and melting at this location.

This type of image can also be used for studies on vegetation (seasonal changes in grasslands) or on the different uses of mountains throughout the seasons (traces of skiers, the presence of cows in mountain pastures, etc.).
