The jardin du Lautaret soon be equipped with internet speeds worthy of a research facility.
Since the invention of the internet, the quality of the network at the Lautaret garden has been called into question. How can we claim to be a world-class research station, involved in four existing or planned European research infrastructures (AnaEE, elTER, ICOS, and ENVRI+), hosting around thirty research projects per year, and yet offer researchers a connection speed lower than that of a private individual in the early 2000s?
A significant step forward was taken on Friday, October 26, 2018, with the financing by our supervisory authority,Université Grenoble Alpes antenna and a subscription to the Amplivia network. The installation will be fully operational before the end of the year, once the interconnection in Valloire has been completed.
After two helicopter rotations and two days of work by the university's network team, the antenna was installed on the existing electricity pylon on the Galibier Pass ridge a few hours before the pass closed and the first snow arrived.
