Experimenting with the effects of global change is what certain scientific installations in jardin du Lautaret allow us to do. Jean-Gabriel Valay gives us a brief overview.
To understand living organisms and how ecosystems work, researchers observe, but they can also conduct experiments: what would happen if, in the future, there were less snowfall? What if there were less rain? Or more?

Researchers therefore manipulate environmental parameters, and this is where French and European research infrastructure comes into play. Ecosystem analysis and experimentation (AnaEE) is stepping in! The jardin du Lautaret a member of this infrastructure. In France, it is known as AnaEE-FR, and at the European level as ERIC AnaEE. Why ERIC? Because this infrastructure belongs to the European Research Infrastructure Consortium. It brings together experimental platforms from Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, and the Czech Republic.

At AnaEE-ERIC, The jardin du Lautaret matter! We are the only Alpine site for this infrastructure. Several of the devices we present in this short video can be used by researchers, who can also stay in our chalets.

We also discuss the importance of multiplying approaches (observation, experimentation) and having several co-located research infrastructures (eLTER, ICOS, AnaEE), while also serving as a place for training and knowledge dissemination.
