The jardin du Lautaret one of the most beautiful in Europe! Discover 2,000 species of alpine plants in an incredible setting, organized by geographic origin, habitat, botanical classification, and medicinal, toxic, or edible properties. Every step takes you to a new continent on this botanical and dreamlike journey around the world. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, stroll past streams, footbridges, ponds, recreated habitats, natural meadows, a historic chalet, century-old trees, and a bird observatory... until you reach this unique view of La Meije, reflected in the water of a small pond surrounded by lush vegetation.
In addition to guided tours of the botanical garden, numerous events are scheduled throughout the summer. Open-air concerts, storytelling walks, botanical watercolor workshops, photography workshops, hands-on activities, meetings, lectures, and behind-the-scenes scientific tours.
The jardin du Lautaret a mecca for science. Learn about its history in the museum space and by following the “discovery and science” signs scattered throughout the garden. You’ll gain a deep understanding of the scientific experiments conducted at Lautaret on biodiversity, glacier evolution, the greening of the Alps, climate change and shifting practices, and the impacts on various mountain ecosystems.
