At 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. 1.5-hour workshop (registration required). If terms like “sowing,” “taking cuttings,” “layering,” or “dividing” don’t mean much to you yet, they’ll hold no secrets for you after you visit Lydia and Thibault’s booth!
Explore the different techniques for propagating plants and growing new ones. Lydia and Thibaut from Sabodiae flowers (Flosab to those in the know), the new nursery owners who sell plants to visitors at the Lautaret Garden, will explain the specifics, advantages, and disadvantages of each method—whether it’s sowing seeds, taking cuttings, layering, or dividing plants. They’ll give a lively presentation of each method, share tips, and provide demonstrations to introduce you to best practices. Then you’ll get your hands dirty to learn how to propagate your favorite plants!
In addition to taking home your plants, Lydia has prepared four educational posters (Taking Cuttings, How Cuttings Work, Sowing Seeds, and Dividing Plants) that you can photograph so you don’t forget anything from the workshop!
Thibaut and Lydia Casagranda founded Flos Sabaudiae in 2001, a nursery specializing in the cultivation of mountain plants from around the world. They offer a selection of just over 1,000 species of perennials, alpine plants, and shade-loving plants. Their nursery is primarily aimed at private customers, a cozy, intimate space where visitors can take the time to discover nature’s treasures. In their garden, Thibaut and Lydia showcase some of these species in rock gardens and flower beds where perennials grow alongside rare trees and shrubs.
