Make the 10,000 volumes in the Lautaret Garden Library accessible by making it part of theUniversité Grenoble Alpes library network. The internship combines an inventory phase (based on a pre-existing partial inventory + cataloging) and weeding of the collection, coupled with a forward-looking assessment of its future value.
Background
The jardin du Lautaret, created in 1899, is a UGA/CNRS research support unit. It is located on two sites. At Col du Lautaret, it includes a botanical garden that welcomes more than 20,000 visitors per year and a research station that hosts teams of researchers and students. On the university campus, it houses its administrative services, an experimental greenhouse, a seed bank, herbariums, archives, and a library.
This library is the result of almost 130 years of activity at the garden and contains around 10,000 volumes on a wide range of plant-related topics (plant biology, botany, plant physiology and ecology, biogeography, etc.). The collection includes old works (the oldest dating from 1729) and is enriched with numerous additions each year. A policy of restoring the most damaged works is also in place.
Objectives
The ultimate goal of the Lautaret Garden is to make this collection accessible by turning it into a library associated with the UGA library network.
To achieve this, various steps are necessary over an estimated period of at least three years:
An inventory and cataloging phase to prepare for cataloging in SUDOC and organize storage and classification on site. Preparation for transition to associate library status.
A phase of reporting and cataloging in SUDOC, with importation of records and exemplification in the DGD BAPSO catalog;
A proposal for a management approach tailored to the Lautaret garden and a policy for promoting this resource (both physically and virtually).
Missions
The internship offer is part of the launch of this program, which combines an inventory phase (based on a pre-existing partial inventory + rating) and weeding out of the collection, coupled with a forward-looking assessment of its future value.
