July 10, 2007Villar-d'Arène - Lautaret Garden
The 141st extraordinary session of the Botanical Society of France (SBF) took place at the Col du Lautaret in July 2007.
This gathering allowed the 75 participants to discover nearly 500 species in the following areas:
La Meije;
the Lautaret Pass;
the Bourget-Cervières marsh;
the Izoard Pass.
The supervisory team included staff from the Lautaret Garden (S. Aubert, Ph. Danton, R. Douzet, O. Manneville) and botanists from the Ecrins National Park (B. Nicollet) and the National Alpine Botanical Conservatory in Gap (L. Garraud).
These sessions provided an opportunity for many reunions and encounters. They allowed participants to discover the richness of the region's flora as well as all the activities offered by the Lautaret garden.
Previous sessions that visited the Lautaret region took place in August 1860 (special session in Grenoble, with four days dedicated to the Romanche Valley and the Lautaret/Galibier area), from July 23 to August 3, 1922 (Briançonnais session), in 1950 (Botanical Cup of the Alps, from Tyrol to France, passing through Lautaret) and in July 1954 (8th International Botanical Congress and centenary of the Botanical Society of France - "Mountaineering and Botany" excursion led by R. Ruffier-Lanche and J. Debelmas, passing through Lautaret).
