For school groups, students, and staff ofUniversité Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, and affiliated laboratories.
The herbarium bears witness to 150 years of botanical research atUniversité Grenoble Alpes. The greenhouses are dedicated to plant biology experiments and seedling production.
Splinters of science in the herbarium and greenhouses of the Lautaret garden
What is a herbarium? What is it used for? How are species classified and preserved? How is a herbarium useful for scientific research?
Come and discover this fragile and fascinating heritage. Find out what lies behind all these carefully classified boxes and how DNA research is changing the field.
The greenhouses enable the Lautaret garden to prepare its seedlings in spring, but they are mainly dedicated to research and experimentation in plant biology. This scientific facility comprises four climate chambers: two "classic" greenhouses and two "alpine" greenhouses designed to recreate high-mountain climatic conditions. The northern part of the building houses the two greenhouses that simulate alpine environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light). The other two Aralab® climate chambers allow crops to be grown in even more precise conditions. The southern part of the building consists of two temperate compartments. The outdoor areas of the greenhouse are dedicated to experimental ecology research. Visit the greenhouses to understand the role that The jardin du Lautaret plays The jardin du Lautaret supporting scientific research.
