Discovery and science trail
As part of the ALCOTRA program and its JARDINALP project, The jardin du Lautaret unveiled its new trail dedicated to global change.
The discovery and science trail was inaugurated on July 12, 2019, by Professor Claude Boutron, President of the National Alpine Botanical Conservatory (leader of the JARDINALP project), and Rolland Douzet, Deputy Director of the Lautaret Garden.
This route was created with the support of the European Union in order to adapt Alpine tourism to climate change and develop summer activities for exploring the Alps by promoting the region's natural heritage.
The discovery and science trail offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the scientific work carried out at The jardin du Lautaret. Researchers from around the world come here to work, with support from the garden, which is run by two organizations:Université Grenoble Alpes the CNRS. This trail invites visitors to reflect on the world around us through this observatory of global changes (climate, tourism, agriculture, etc.).
Rolland Douzet explained the origins of this journey.
Claude Boutron emphasized the importance of collaboration between the various gardens and their structures in the INTERREG program and its Franco-Italian European Regional Development Fund ALCOTRA. The JARDINALP project brings together eight Franco-Italian alpine botanical gardens: the gardens of Gap-Charance, Lautaret, Paradisia, Castelsavoia, Chanousia, Saussurea, Valderia, and the Marguareis botanical stations.
