A mixed 2015 season at jardin du Lautaret

The particularly favorable weather in 2015 should have resulted in an exceptional season in terms of visitor numbers. However, it was identical to last year, which was the worst year on record due to terrible weather (the rainiest in 50 years!).

This lack of visitors is a direct consequence of the total closure of the RD 901 road at the Chambon tunnel. The interruption of this important route between France and Italy has deprived us of all passing visitors, as well as those from the Grenoble and Lyon areas.

We hope that the opening of the temporary road on the other side of Le Chambon, scheduled for mid-November, will allow traffic to return to normal for summer 2016, pending the reopening of the tunnel in summer 2017.

On the other hand, the good weather allowed several projects to be completed in the Garden, including the complete reconstruction of the Middle Eastern rockery and the grasses bed, the complete refurbishment of the nursery, and the integration of the Galerie de l'Alpe into the Garden.
